Today’s entry will be a bit shorter than usual. It’s more of a simple appreciation post vs a how to or a slightly deeper dive into projects and shop things. With that noted, the versatility of wood is simply awesome…don’t you think?

Any given project in the workshops is unique, even if there are two items being made that are the “same” design, size and overall specification. The nature of wood and it’s structure is so cool. Every square inch is different from the next. This simple fact means that no matter how many times you use the same template or set of plans to make ‘repeat projects’, they’re different.

I think this is one of the best aspects of being a woodworker. It’s an art in one of the purest forms.

Wood lends itself to dozens of different applications too.  It can be bent, shaped, carved, burnt, chiseled, cut, glued, epoxied, fastened and often recycled. Apply some or all of these to projects where different wood species can be selected and your project list is almost infinite. It’s pretty staggering and pretty cool.

No two projects are ever the same in woodworking. Nature creates awesomeness all around us and it’s great to reflect on this once in a while and have some appreciation.

What’s something you find you’re grateful for as a woodworker?
