WHAT’S NEXT?

This sounds as if it’s very vague, open-ended and something likely to just float off into space.

However, that’s not usually the case in the world of woodworking and crafting timber made things. At least not for me.

Projects often have a way of ‘meshing’ or inspiring the next build in a ‘trickle down’ effect. While working on a charcuterie board the other day my mind had started to wander a bit (let’s face it, sanding can be boring sometimes). It inevitably wandered to the other project I had been creating – a plant pedestal. Only, I didn’t know it was a plant pedestal at the time…it was originally slated to be a clock.

I thought back to when I started woodworking (what now feels like multiple lifetimes ago)  and realized I had made a clock of similar size and shape. Something about this didn’t excite me or make me feel as if a clock was the right fit for the reclaimed pallet project.

I abandoned the clock project.

Keep in mind this is all while I am droning away through 100, 120, 150, 180, 220 & 240 grit sanding work. Did I mention it can get boring at times? 😉

Anyhow…my mind came up with the ‘plant pedestal’ as a small decorative piece for household plants. Something simple, clean but that done correctly can really enhance the décor & warmth of a space.  A simple round over top edge with a 22 & 1/2 degree bevel on the bottom. Clean, simple & elegant…

So…what’s YOUR next project or craft? What’s in store for that empty corner or shelf space? Creating something new? Putting a fresh spin on a rustic classic piece? Give me shout and let’s chat.
