Walnut is one of those woods that just holds so many wonderful characteristics. It’s hard to not want and make all sorts of creations with it.

I recently got some live edge slabs in to work on a few projects. One of these was an epoxy serving tray. I know this is a popular item and at times can be overdone, so I often try to focus on simplicity and elegance with a piece like this.

After squaring up the outer edges I went to work on filling the center with a black tinted pour of Total Boat Fathom epoxy…boy this stuff is great to work with!

Days later I took everything out of the form, smoothed out each side and set about making things look sanded and polished. The natural beauty of Walnut is really something. With a coat of Tung oil the depth of this species is simply great.
