Some projects are standard. Some are built to spec or specific sizes every time with little variation. Commissioned projects aren’t usually the ‘norm’ though…which is awesome.
Building planter boxes and cedar outdoor crafts is always fun. They have a “rustic” charm to them that makes you feel as if spring, summer and warm weather might never end. Every so often I have a customer reach out to me with a custom planter box size. Some are taller but not as wide, some have no legs and some are bottomless.
The open bottom ‘tub’ style planters are really cool. Sturdy wall design is a must and when I get to make these “oversized” ones, it’s just fun. I say oversized because they are larger than the typical size planters I build. What’s funny though is any size theoretically can work as it’s all dependent on the clients space needs.
These are big (4ft x 2.5ft x 2ft). Plenty of room for soil and the open bottoms allow plants to connect with the natural world.
What’s a project you’ve made that’s been taken up a notch by going bigger?
